As industries from oil and gas to power generation turn to AI and data-driven maintenance, Prometheus Group remains one of the few companies bridging safety, maintenance, operations and engineering within a unified platform
In conversation with Prometheus Group
Can you give us a brief background about Prometheus Group, and tell us a little bit about the ownership structure?
Prometheus Group, founded in 1998, is a global leader in enterprise asset management (EAM) software solutions that help asset-intensive organisations optimise safety, maintenance, operations and engineering. Built “by engineers, for teams in the field”, our EAM unites processes like compliance and permitting, planning and scheduling, asset performance management, work execution, turnarounds and contractor management, analytics and data governance across the entire asset lifecycle.
Over the past 27 years, Prometheus Group has expanded both organically and through strategic acquisitions, building deep expertise across industries such as energy, utilities, manufacturing and chemicals. Headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, US, the company is privately held and backed by growth-oriented private equity investors with strong industrial technology experience.
Founder and CEO Eric Huang, along with the senior management team, retains a meaningful ownership stake – ensuring close alignment between leadership and investors. This structure underpins Prometheus Group’s long-term growth strategy and global expansion, including ongoing investments in the Middle East. As industrial organisations in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) accelerate their digital transformation, Prometheus Group is deepening its presence in the region to support critical infrastructure and operational excellence for the energy sector.
How do you assist owner-operators in critical asset-intensive industries such as oil and gas, petrochemicals and utilities in meeting their asset integrity, plant efficiency and maintenance requirements?
Prometheus Group provides an integrated, cloud-based EAM platform that enables teams in asset-intensive industries – including oil and gas, petrochemicals and utilities – to enhance asset longevity, improve maintenance performance and optimise plant efficiency. This platform is particularly impactful in the Middle East, as the region holds around 52 % of global oil reserves and 43 % of global natural gas reserves, representing ~36 % and ~22 % of global production respectively.
Prometheus Group is also heavily investing in the mining and metals industry, supporting customers in GCC countries like UAE, Qatar and Oman, and addressing challenges like safety and regulatory compliance, remote site management and mixed asset types.
By integrating directly with ERP systems such as SAP, IBM Maximo and Oracle, the Prometheus-AI Platform eliminates silos, replaces manual processes and delivers a single source of truth for asset management. Across the asset lifecycle – from capital projects and commissioning to safety, maintenance and turnarounds – Prometheus solutions help customers plan effectively, execute safely and maintain compliance with industry standards.
Solutions such as Prometheus Electronic Permitting & Safety (ePAS) and RiskPoynt enhance safety and risk management; Prometheus Master Data as a Service (MDaaS) improves data quality and integrity; and AI-enabled tools like GWOS-AI (Graphical Work Order Scheduler), Mobile EAM and RapidAPM (Asset Performance Management) empower maintenance teams with streamlined scheduling, mobile access, and predictive insights that reduce downtime and extend asset life.
By uniting people, processes and data, the Prometheus-AI Platform enables organisations to achieve higher reliability, stronger safety performance and measurable operational improvements through intelligent, data-driven maintenance.
Could you briefly outline your customer profile in the Mena region?
For more than a decade, Prometheus Group has supported leading organisations across the Mena region in their digital transformation and operational excellence journeys. Customers typically operate complex ERP environments such as SAP, IBM Maximo and Oracle and rely on Prometheus solutions to streamline safety, maintenance, engineering and project execution. The platform’s ability to tailor workflows to local regulations and operational realities makes it a preferred choice over other more rigid EAM platforms.
The company serves a broad range of heavy-asset sectors. Prometheus customers in the Mena region include some of the world’s largest integrated energy and resource companies, spanning the full value chain from exploration and production to refining, petrochemicals and liquefied natural gas. They also encompass leading regional players in chemicals, mining and metals – organisations that are recognised globally for their scale, technological advancement and strategic importance to national economies across the Gulf region.
Many of these partnerships have lasted over a decade, with customers steadily expanding their adoption of the Prometheus-AI Platform. This demonstrates the confidence in Prometheus Group to drive digital integration, improve asset reliability and enhance operational efficiency while harnessing AI to accelerate the next phase of transformation.
How do you see the role of AI-based platforms progressing in the performance of predictive maintenance and shutdown/turnaround optimisation?
Artificial intelligence is transforming how asset-heavy industries manage maintenance, reliability and project execution. In sectors prevalent in the Mena region such as oil and gas, petrochemicals and utilities – where downtime and safety risks carry significant financial consequences – AI enables a shift from reactive management to predictive, data-driven decision-making.
At Prometheus Group, AI is viewed as a catalyst for operational transformation, empowering organisations to make smarter and faster decisions across the asset management lifecycle. Our AI-enabled solutions – including MDaaS, GWOS-AI, RapidAPM and STO Manager – embed intelligence and streamline maintenance and turnaround processes to deliver measurable outcomes.
MDaaS applies AI to continuously improve master data accuracy and integrity, providing a strong foundation for reliable predictive analytics. Meanwhile, GWOS-AI uses machine learning to automate planning and scheduling, completing scheduling work in minutes instead of hours.
RapidAPM applies AI and neural networks to monitor asset health in real time, identifying anomalies before they lead to costly failures. In one notable case, a large power provider, recognised for balancing industrial reliability with renewable innovation, used RapidAPM to achieve over $2m in annual savings by reducing downtime with predictive maintenance.
STO Manager centralises and enforces shutdown and turnaround processes to enhance scope creation, resource planning and risk forecasting. One of the largest crude oil traders in the world has leveraged this solution to consolidate all historical turnaround data, enabling better future planning; implemented customised risk matrices that provide clear insight into scope inclusion; empowered all participants to challenge scopes before execution; and integrated isolation management to enhance health and safety controls.
AI is embedded throughout the Prometheus-AI Platform, delivering end-to-end visibility, reducing human error and driving continuous improvement. By turning data into actionable insight, it enables industrial organisations to enhance safety, reliability and efficiency – transforming maintenance into a key competitive advantage.
How do Prometheus Group’s existing deliveries of AI-based solutions position it as a service provider to more industrial stakeholders in the Mena region?
Across Middle Eastern and global operations, Prometheus Group’s AI-based solutions deliver measurable gains in maintenance efficiency, operational reliability and workforce productivity. Customers in the Mena region report that the Prometheus-AI Platform simplifies complex asset management processes, improves decision-making and frees up valuable resources through intelligent automation.
Users of GWOS-AI, Prometheus Group’s AI-powered planning and scheduling solution, describe it as transformative – automating up to 90% of scheduling work in minutes and embedding best practices that reduce training time and costs. RapidAPM applies AI-driven predictive analytics to detect anomalies and prevent equipment failures, enabling the shift from reactive to predictive maintenance. One major utility achieved multimillion-dollar annual savings after using RapidAPM to identify early warning signs in critical assets.
Meanwhile, Prometheus MDaaS enhances data accuracy and asset integrity by continuously cleansing, enriching and standardising master data. This ensures maintenance teams work with reliable, up-to-date information that empowers AI tools to maximise their impact, while eliminating costly manual data-cleansing projects.
Together, these successes demonstrate that Prometheus Group’s AI solutions are practical, field-tested tools delivering measurable value. Through proven results in preventing asset failures and driving substantial cost efficiencies, Prometheus Group is establishing itself as the Mena region’s standard setter for AI-driven asset management excellence.
