‘Nothing will happen tomorrow': Omar Abdullah plays down J&K statehood buzz; CM says, 'it’s just a gut feeling, hopeful about monsoon session'

NEW DELHI: Amid renewed speculation about Jammu and Kashmir regaining statehood, National Conference leader and J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah on Monday dismissed the possibility of any major announcement in the immediate future, saying he expects “nothing to happen tomorrow” but remains hopeful for the rest of the monsoon session.“I’ve heard every possible permutation and combination about what to expect in J&K tomorrow so let me stick my neck out and say nothing will happen tomorrow,” Abdullah said in a post on X. “Fortunately nothing bad will happen but unfortunately nothing positive will happen either.”While brushing aside the likelihood of any significant development on Tuesday, Abdullah added that he remains “optimistic about something positive for J&K in this monsoon session of Parliament.”“And no, I haven’t had any meetings or conversations with people in Delhi. This is just a gut feeling. Let’s see this time tomorrow,” he wrote. The remarks come amid a surge in speculation over a possible move by the Centre to restore J&K’s statehood, which was revoked along with its special status under Article 370 in August 2019.
