Bihar horror: 26-year-old woman gang-raped inside ambulance; victim collapsed during Home Guard recruitment test

NEW DELHI: A 26-year-old woman has alleged that she was gang-raped in a moving ambulance after collapsing during a Home Guard recruitment drive in Bihar’s Gaya district. The incident is said to have taken place on 24 July in Bodh Gaya, where a physical endurance test was being held as part of the recruitment process. According to police, the woman fainted during the test and was being taken to a hospital when the assault occurred. She has told police that she was raped by multiple individuals inside the ambulance while she was unconscious. Based on her statement, a case was registered at the Bodh Gaya police station. Gaya police said two men were arrested within two hours of receiving information about the case. “We acted immediately and have taken swift action,” a senior official said. An investigation is underway.Reacting to the incident, Union minister and LJP (Ramvilas) chief Chirag Paswan said he feels “sad to support a government where crime has become uncontrolled”. “The way crime is happening in Bihar, the administration has totally bowed down in front of criminals,” Paswan said. “Yes, this incident deserves condemnation — but the real question is, why are such crimes repeatedly happening? There’s a series of crimes. If this continues, the situation will become frightening — in fact, it already has.” Paswan added that while some may see a conspiracy to defame the government ahead of elections, it remains the administration’s duty to maintain law and order. “I request the government to take timely steps,” he said.(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
